‘WRITE THAT PAPER, GET THAT PAPER’ Essay Contest
Thank you for considering the Financial Empowerment Center at Prince George’s Community College (FEC@PGCC) essay contest. Our essay contest is made possible through a partnership by the English Department of Prince George’s Community College and the FEC@PGCC. Essays can be submitted between March 10–April 10, 2023 – known as the ‘Contest Period.’ The last day for submission is April 10 and winners will be announced May 1, 2023.
BONUS: During the ‘Contest Period’ Contestants who attend and complete at least 30-minutes of ‘PERSONAL FINANCIAL COACHING’ (an individual session) at the FEC@PGCC get 15 percentage points to their essay submission. RULES OVERVIEW: Your Essay should be completely original material and must not have been previously submitted to another contest. Your work must be your own. Plagiarized content will be immediately disqualified. All Essays will be judged by judging panel consisting of, but not limited to, FEC@PGCC staff – and may include English Department staff and FEC@PGCC Advisory Members and Contributors. CRITERIA: 1. Completeness 40% (Did you fully answer the prompt); 2. Creativity 40% (How novel and impactful is your essay); 3. Writing quality and grammar 20% (How well did you demonstrate essential writing rules)
PRIZES: Winners** MUST attend at least one individual or group financial coaching session at the FEC@PGCC offices to receive their prize (If winner has already completed a session prior to Award Selection, then that suffices).
1st place: $250

5th place: $50
6th place: $25
** Winners may be provided with an opportunity to perform the winning essay at a local Bus Boys and Poets, on-stage during a performance night.
