Steering Clear of Medicare Scams

April 1 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Wednesday, April 1, 2026 1:00 PM

While consumers of all ages and walks of life should be on guard against scams, we know that fraudsters often target particularly vulnerable populations, including older adults and other individuals enrolled in Medicare.

Whether by robocall, robotext, or other form of unwanted communication, Medicare beneficiaries regularly encounter schemes that aim to obtain their personal information, use their Medicare benefits, or steal their money or identity. Although the exact figure is impossible to measure, the Senior Medicare Patrol National Resource Center reports that Medicare loses approximately $60 billion annually due to fraud, errors, and abuse.

To gather information you can use to protect your clients, join us April 1 for our “Steering Clear of Medicare Scams” webinar. The virtual train-the-trainer will feature a presentation by Catherine A. Snow, MHA, MS, an outreach specialist with the US Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Register now and learn ways to help your clients:

  • Be better prepared to spot fraud schemes by understanding Medicare coverage options, including distinguishing between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage;
  • Recognize Medicare fraud tactics, including common marketing schemes, while knowing that Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE are the only official sources of Medicare information;
  • Actively protect themselves and others from fraud, waste, and abuse by applying simple steps to fight fraud;
  • Understand how sharing a Medicare card or number can lead to personal and medical identity theft and know how to report it; and
  • Find additional resources to help them avoid misleading and fraudulent marketing calls and texts.
