Welcome (1:00 – 1:10 PM)

Financial Education Means Taxes, Too (1:10 – 2:25 PM)

Many financial educators resist covering the topic of taxes in their courses because they fear that their lack of expertise will cause them to misguide clients or create legal issues. However, in order to provide truly comprehensive financial education – and more importantly, to provide holistic support to the communities they serve – some form of tax content must be provided by financial educators. Join us to learn industry best practices for including tax content in your financial education offerings without jeopardizing yourself or your clients.

Investor Education: Resources, Best Practices, and Emerging Issues (2:35 – 3:50 PM)

This presentation will cover agency resources available to financial counselors, ideas to convey investor education concepts – but not investment advice, and emerging issues relevant for counselors and the community members they support. The discussion will include topics such as investor alerts and bulletins that address evergreen and emerging risks, how the SEC’s investor education team approaches investing concepts and newer topics such as investing apps.
